Decorating a Large Space Can Be a Challenge But It’s Not Hopeless

If you have a large space to decorate, then you’ll likely find many people who don’t understand why it can be a problem. After all, they’d love to have more room in their bedroom, or a larger living room. However, you know that it can actually be rather tricky. One of the biggest comments we hear about decorating large spaces at Half Price Drapes is that homeowners don’t know where to start. Don’t worry – we have some tips that can help.

Follow all the classic design tips

We know you want special tips for large spaces, but start by making sure that you’re following all the basic design tips because they do apply to your space, no matter how large or small. For example, you want to ensure that you’re welcoming guests the moment they walk into the room. If you don’t have enough furniture, or it’s sparsely decorated, then it can make them feel uncomfortable.

Get the scale right

Next up, make sure that you’re scaling up all your home accessories so they better fit the room. For example, you’ll want taller window treatments, you’ll want oversized carpets, and you’ll want furniture that will take up a lot of space. Everything from art to accessories should be oversized to fit the room. You don’t want to clutter it up but you do want to make sure that it has enough furniture to not feel barren.

Tie the room together with a focal point

As you would with any room when you’re designing it, you’ll want to make sure that you find a focal point to tie the room together with. One good option is a central light fixture, like an enormous chandelier that immediately draws the eyes up. Another option is a huge piece of art that takes up an entire wall. You can then paint the rest of the walls white to really draw the eyes to the art. Whatever you choose, just make sure there’s one focal point that ties the room together. Finally, make sure that you’re keeping an open concept. You want your furniture and accessories to ebb and flow. When you step into the room, you want to feel comfortable and feel as though everything you’ve added to the room is there for a reason.
