Roman Shades

A cleaner, more architectural window treatment than curtains — HPD Roman shades are handcrafted to your exact dimensions in velvet, faux silk, faux linen, cotton, and linen. Available in relaxed and flat fold styles with your choice of lining, from privacy to 100% blackout.

Roman shades offer something curtain panels don't — a completely clean window line when raised, and a flat, structured coverage when lowered. The fabric folds neatly against the headrail when the shade is up, leaving the full window unobstructed and the room feeling open. Lowered, the shade presents a tailored, uncluttered face that suits rooms where a clean, architectural look is the design priority.

HPD Roman shades are available across seven fabric families — velvet, faux silk, faux linen, cotton, linen, and essential blended — each with distinct character. Velvet delivers warmth and richness in a flat fold. Faux silk brings iridescent sheen and formal elegance. Faux linen provides organic warmth in a versatile neutral palette. Cotton offers natural matte quality in solid and printed options. French Linen brings authentic natural fiber character.

Every shade is custom-made to your exact width and height in relaxed or flat Roman style, with your choice of lining from privacy through to 100% Hotel Blackout. Inside and outside mount options are available. The plastic beaded continuous loop lift operates smoothly and locks at any position — secure the loop to the wall with the included tension device, particularly in homes with young children.

What fabrics are available for HPD Roman shades?

Seven fabric families are available — velvet (Signature and Heritage Plush), faux silk (Dupioni and Taffeta), faux linen (Textured, Heavy, Italian, Performance, Woven), cotton (Printed and Solid), French Linen, and essential blended (Woven and Patterned). Each brings distinct character to the structured Roman shade format — velvet for warmth and richness, faux silk for sheen and formality, faux linen for organic warmth, cotton for natural versatility.

What style options are available?

All HPD Roman shades are available in both Relaxed and Flat Roman styles. The Relaxed style features soft, casual curves at the bottom when raised — suited to informal fabrics and rooms. The Flat style features crisp, structured horizontal folds — suited to formal rooms and fabrics like velvet and faux silk where drape and sheen are the focus.

How do I measure for a Roman shade?

Roman shades can be ordered for inside or outside mount. Inside mount requires a minimum 2¾" window depth — measure the opening at three points (top, middle, bottom for width; left, centre, right for height) and use the narrowest width and tallest height. HPD makes all necessary deductions in-house. Outside mount: add a minimum of 1½" on each side for width and at least 2–3" above the opening for height. Always measure to the nearest ⅛" using a steel tape measure.

How does the lift mechanism work and is it safe for homes with children?

HPD Roman shades operate with a plastic beaded continuous loop that raises and lowers the shade smoothly through a clutch mechanism. The shade locks at any position. Free-hanging loops pose a strangulation hazard to young children — always secure the loop to the wall using the tension device provided, keep loops out of children's reach, and position furniture away from window coverings. Check that the tension device remains securely fixed to the wall and reinstall if it comes loose.

What rooms and styles are Roman shades best suited for?

Roman shades suit virtually every room — their clean, fitted character makes them particularly well-suited to kitchens, dining rooms, and home offices where curtain panels would be impractical or take up too much space. Living rooms and bedrooms also benefit from the architectural window line, particularly when paired with curtain panels for a layered look. Roman shades work across every interior style — the fabric choice drives the aesthetic.
