As the new year begins, it’s time to consider the trends of 2016 and what’s coming in 2017. You can expect that Half Price Drapes will keep you updated on emerging trends, but first we must say goodbye to 2016. Here are a few of the design trends that the professionals claim are headed on their way out for 2017.
Too much brass
Some designers have referred to 2016 as the “year of too much brass.” They’re saying that brass is going to stay in style, but it will no longer be popular to decorate with it exclusively. It will go back to being a lovely accent color rather than the main event.
Imitation marble
We can’t imagine a world in which marble goes out of style, but in 2017 we’re told that imitation marble will no longer be popular. It’s unfortunate, because the quality of imitation marble has increased significantly in the last decade, and it’s the only option within the price range of many people who’d rather have marble. That said, it’s now considered a bit tacky.
Macramé
This obviously wasn’t a new trend but was a throwback to the ‘70s. It was especially popular with what’s known as the “boho-chic” look but it’s expected to make its way out of favor in 2017 as well. We wonder if it’ll take another 40 years to come back in style? I guess only time will tell.
Cheap curtains
The days of simply slapping up curtains and calling it good are over. In 2017, designers will focus on high quality curtains include silk curtains, velvet curtains, and even modern cellular shades. Design experts promise that this year there will be a huge focus on window coverings and that it’s a smart place to put your decorating dollars.
Gray tones
Gray was the color of the year in 2016, thanks to its neutral hues, but decorators say one year is enough. What will the new color of 2017 be? We have some ideas – and we’ve seen some chatter about it – but we’ll save that for another blog post.Until then, remember that Half Price Drapes is always updating our window treatment options and offering incredible prices for quality curtains. Whether you’re looking to redecorate your entire home or just a single room, starting with the curtains is a wise move.
