Figuring out how to take best advantage of natural light requires a homeowner to understand that every view isn’t created equally, and each window faces a different view and should be used in a different way. Eastern exposure refers to morning light

There are many places that eastern exposure looks incredible – a living room among them. However, most people want to cover up their windows with eastern exposure if they’re in the bedroom. Sleep shouldn’t be affected by the bright sun invading the bedroom. A blackout curtain is a great way to prevent it from doing just that.

Western exposure brings in afternoon light

Home offices are a great example of a room that can benefit from wide open, western exposure windows – assuming it’s not the dead of summer with high temps. North facing windows get light all throughout the day, just like southern exposure windows do, but it’s never as harsh as southern light. It’s also not dull. In fact, it’s considered a perfect type of light for most uses. Designers have described it as comforting and calming.
