A new season is upon us and you know what that means: New decorating trends are here! At Half Price Drapes, we love staying up to date on these ideas but we also encourage our clients to focus on what they love – not what happens to be in style for a few months this year. Here are some of the decorating trends we’re seeing for summer 2017.
Using houseplants as a part of décor
Many people love houseplants indoors because they help filter the air, they bring an outdoor element inside, and they make a room feel roomier. However, these days, plants are being used as part of the décor itself. The key is choosing hardy plants that can survive inside and that don’t require much maintenance. You should also keep in mind that some plants can be poisonous to pets.
Carpet is becoming less popular
This is actually a trend we’ve been seeing for years, in part because carpets have been known to make allergies worse. At the moment, both hardwood and laminate are very popular. The most popular colors are neutrals like gray and taupe. We think neutrals are a great color for floors too, because you can then buy accents like window coverings and furniture that pops out with a neutral background.
Lucite: A blast from the past
Lucite was first popular mid-century and is making a serious comeback. This hard, clear plastic is used in a huge number of ways. Some cool ideas we’ve seen have included towel holders, legs on chairs, desktops, and even drawer pulls.
Minimalist décor
We’re seeing a lot of decorators focusing on just a few key pieces instead of trying to use as many fabrics, materials, and colors as possible. For example, they may add a jaw-dropping couch, a piece of well-placed art, and incredible Roman shades. This minimalist option helps make everything that’s within a room look incredible, while keeping it simple at the same time.
The classic options never go out of style
At Half Price Drapes, we recommend that you choose your big ticket items based on what you believe you’ll like for years to come. If you then want to add stylish, trendy options, choose throw pillows, rugs, art, or other easily changed, affordable pieces. This gives you the chance to personalize your space as the trends change without costing you an arm and a leg.
