There are a lot of things to consider as you work to decorate your home. Surely, one of the first things will be the theme of a particular room. It doesn’t have to be something complicated – it can be as simple as cozy and uncluttered – but you should know what you want the overall feeling to be. On the other hand, it can be dramatic and unique. One of the ideas we really like at Half Price Drapes is basing your design off a specific locale. You can be subtle with it, or you can take it over the top and plaster the walls with posters from your favorite destinations. Of course, if you’re like most people you’ll choose something between these two extremes. Here are some of the ideas we’ve found interesting.

Decorate a room based on Old Hollywood

Can you think of a place that brings to mind more glitz and glamor than the hay day of Old Hollywood? Think lots of gold, lots of light, and lots of shimmering surfaces. Add a few luxe fabrics, vintage red velvet curtains, and lots of soft pillows to complete the look. If you want to take it truly over the top – and what better locale to overdo than the one that stands for opulence – you can add a few vintage movie posters from some of the great Old Hollywood actors.

Get inspiration from Paris

When you think of Paris, you likely think of simplicity, class, and femininity. A bedroom is a great option to decorate based on Paris. Pick up some lovely, sleek fabrics, some flowers for the bedside table, and a lot of soft lights. You can add some photos of the Eiffel Tower, and don’t forget to have plenty of pastries on hand at all times!

Imagine yourself on an African safari

There are many directions you could go if you want to decorate to replicate the plains and deserts of Africa. Start with lots of bold colors and add some unique textures. Then add artwork of your favorite safari animals, or perhaps add some zebra striped patterns. This is especially great for a large family room that gets a lot of love.
