Will 2017 Be the End of Minimalist Décor?

Anyone who follows any type of fashion, whether clothing or interior décor, knows that what’s in style is cyclical. Just take a look at your local mall and you’ll likely see high-waisted jeans – a fad that was first popularized in the ‘80s. When it comes to décor, at Half Price Drapes we’ve seen the fads come and go over the years. That’s why we offer both contemporary options and classic styles. As we look at what’s becoming popular this year, it appears that minimalism may be on the way out.

We’re seeing lots of funky wallpaper

Wallpaper has been out of style for a few decades now but it’s making a comeback, in large part due to the latest products that can be easily hung up and removed. Say goodbye to renting a steamer just to spend 12 hours removing wallpaper. Now it’s just peal and place. As a result, many homes have wallpaper – but not just any wallpaper. Designers seem to be falling in love with funky, busily patterned wallpaper.

Bright colors seem to be exciting homeowners

Minimalist style is most commonly associated with colors that black, white, and gray. In fact, gray was the color of the year last year. This year expect to see bright, bold colors. At Half Price Drapes, we offer everything from pink and fuchsia curtains to bold red to bright blues. These bright colors are sometimes used within a pattern, sometimes used as a singular color, and sometimes selected in stripes or dots.

Bathrooms are getting luxed out

Homeowners wanting a cozy and comfortable over-the-top bathroom is nothing new. What is new is the idea that it should be truly luxe. We’re talking bold woods, fancy tile, gold-trimmed mirrors, art work everywhere. We’re talking over the top in a totally different way. Once again, Half Price Drapes offers a wide range of window treatments that can meet any need, no matter how deluxe.

Eclectic rooms

From mixing patterns to tons of personal trinkets around to mismatched picture frame sizes and styles, there are a lot of eclectic looks coming through this year. The key to making this work is to have either a focal point or a common theme. For example, if you’re going to choose frames of varying sizes, pick one color to paint them all. Or if you’re going to have a mix of patterns, have one large, solid colored piece of furniture that ties the patterns together.
