1. Furniture that’s the wrong size

If you’re like most people, you’ve likely not started your home’s décor from scratch. Instead, you’ve brought furniture from previous homes or perhaps even bought something used. This is savvy but it can also make your home look cheap if the furniture is the wrong size.

2. A small rug

Many experts say that if you have a rug that’s too small, you’ll throw off the scale of the room. It can give the impression that you can’t afford to buy the right sized rug. The good news is that if you have a small rug that you love, you don’t have to get rid of it – simply layer it with a larger rug.

3. Cheap art

Buying cheap art from a big box store may be a great way to save money but it’s also a great way to instantly make a room look cheap. You can find bargain prices on unique, one-of-a-kind pieces at garage sales or flea markets. If you have art that you simply won’t part with, at least use an upscale frame and have it professionally matted.

4. The wrong window treatments

Whether you choose window treatments that are the wrong size or the wrong color, if you haven’t put thought into them it’ll show – and it can make your room look cheap.
