Valances

A decorative top treatment that frames your window with color and pattern without blocking your view or natural light. HPD window valances are crafted in 100% cotton twill with privacy lining, and hang three ways: gathered on the rod, clean ripple fold via back tabs, or pleated finish via hook belt. Window valances add something full-length curtain panels and Roman shades don't — a decorative, patterned top treatment that frames the window and gives it a finished, intentional look without committing to floor-length fabric. Hung at the top of the window, a valance draws the eye upward, adds color and pattern at eye level, and creates a visual anchor for the room's window wall.

HPD valances are made from 100% cotton twill with a privacy lining that adds body and structure, helping the valance hang cleanly and hold its shape. All feature the versatile Pole Pocket with Hook Belt and Back Tabs header, giving three distinct hanging styles without additional hardware.

The printed cotton range spans bold modern geometrics, ikat and batik-inspired prints, medallion and emblem designs, florals, and paisleys. Valances are particularly effective layered over roller blinds or Roman shades, where they conceal the hardware and headrail while adding decorative character above.

What valance styles does HPD offer?

HPD window valances are available in Printed Cotton — 100% cotton twill with privacy lining, featuring bold prints including geometrics, ikat and batik-inspired designs, medallions, florals, and paisleys. All share the Pole Pocket with Hook Belt and Back Tabs header.

How does this valance hang and what are my hanging options?

HPD printed cotton valances use the Pole Pocket with Hook Belt and Back Tabs header giving you three distinct hanging styles from one header.

Pole Pocket threads directly onto the rod through a 3-inch pocket for a soft, naturally gathered look. Fits rods up to 1.5 inches in diameter.

Back Tabs hang the valance for a clean, fixed ripple fold look without rings.

Hook Belt is a ribbon-like band sewn into the back that reinforces drapery pins. Attach pins and hang from rings or a traverse rod for a more formal, pleated finish. Curtain hook pins are not included but are available for purchase separately.

All three options use the same valance with no additional hardware required. Sold per valance.

How do I use a valance and what can I layer it with?

A valance is a top-of-window treatment that hangs across the upper portion of the window to frame the view and add color and pattern without blocking natural light or the view.

Standalone: a valance works on its own in kitchens, dining rooms, and entryways where adding personality to the window is the goal without blocking light.

Layered over blinds or shades: the most popular use. Install a roller blind, cellular shade, or Roman shade underneath for privacy and light control, then add the valance above to soften the look and conceal the hardware and headrail.

Layered over curtain panels: install panels on a separate rod behind the valance for a fully dressed, layered window treatment. The valance adds a coordinating top detail that ties the window treatment together.

The privacy lining also reduces light entering from behind at the upper pane.

What rooms and styles do window valances suit?

Valances suit kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, and entryways where a decorative top treatment adds personality and a finished look without the commitment of full-length panels. Particularly popular in kitchens and dining rooms where panels would be impractical, and in rooms where a blind handles light control and the valance adds the decorative layer above. The printed cotton range suits farmhouse, bohemian, globally-inspired, and transitional interiors.
