6 Decorating Tips for Outdoor Spaces

Decorating outdoor space can make it more likely you’ll use it – which effectively increases the usable square footage at your home. That said, it can be a challenge to know how to decorate it. We have a few ideas to help you spruce up any outdoor space.

1. Choose pieces that work in and outdoors

You’ll get the most out of your decorating dollars if you choose pieces that are as flexible as possible. As a result, pick up pieces that can work both in and outdoors. For example, buy a tablecloth that’s good for both indoors and outdoors.

2. Lighting is important outside too

Experienced home decorators know how important it is to have the right lighting but don’t forget that this is just as important outside as it is inside. It’s true that you’ll be getting most of your lighting from the sun, but when nighttime rolls around, you don’t want to have to take the party inside. Consider candles, torches, and other unique ways to light your outdoor space.

3. Consider your flooring

Most outdoor spaces are either wood if they’re a deck or concrete if they’re a patio. If you already have one of these flooring types, then consider ways you can spruce it up. Both concrete and wood can be stained in a variety of colors. If you don’t yet have the outdoor space complete or want to do a major remodel, consider using tile to make it something special.

4. Let your indoors complement your outdoors

Remember too that you’ll be able to see your home from your outdoor space. This is just one of the reasons that at Half Price Drapes we recommend high-quality draperies. Not only will you see and enjoy them when you’re in your home, but your beautiful sheer curtains – or other types of window coverings – will be visible from outside as well.

5. Paint a wall

Do you have any walls outside? Before you say no, consider any garage, workspace, shed, etc. you have outside. If there is any type of wall, then you can paint it a bright, bold color and use it as a backdrop for your exterior space.

6. Keep it informal

The key to a successful outdoor decorating scheme is one that’s cozy and fun. As a result, don’t make it more formal than it has to be. Even if you end up hosting a formal dinner party at some point, you can make it formal for the night by choosing formal dinner wear, table clothes, etc.
