Investment pieces are those pieces that you paid a premium for. These are your newest pieces that you’re going to want to make sure are front and center. There’s nothing wrong with splurging on something you love, just make sure that you display it prominently!

3. Use low furniture to make ceilings look taller

If you’re decorating an apartment or home with low ceilings, or a room like a basement, then there are several tricks that can help the space seem taller. One tip is to use low furniture. The further the distance is from the top of your couch to the ceiling, for example, the taller the ceiling will look.

4. Spice up a neutral room with window treatments

It’s wise to decorate a room with neutral colors and styles because you know that you can use that décor for years to come. However, you don’t want the room to lack completely lack personality. A good compromise is to let your windows be the spice in the room.

5. Use mirrors to make a room look bigger

Just like low furniture can make ceilings look taller, mirrors can make a space feel roomier. With the light reflecting and the room looking endless, a small room can feel much less cramped with some wisely placed mirrors.

6. It’s often better to mix than to match

Not only is it more affordable to mix than match, but it’s a lot more fun! Who says your dishes have to all match? Pick up plates you like, choose glasses you love, and add some napkins to the mix. The only real rule is that you decorate with pieces you love!
