Focus on These Five Elements When Decorating and You Can’t Go Wrong

1. What do you need and what do you want?

The most important thing is to ensure that every room is functional. Too often, as people work on decorating, they think only about aesthetics. First and foremost, ask yourself what your room is used for. Ask yourself what you need in it to make sure that it functions well.

2. What kind of colors and patterns do you like?

Decorating with just one color can leave a room looking stark, but too many colors and your eyes won’t know where to focus. We recommend sticking with three, four, or five colors. Then add a few patterns in those colors to add some depth to the décor. We have some unique patterned curtains in a variety of color schemes.

3. Vary the size of items in the room

The size of furniture and accessories will vary greatly based on the size of the room you’re decorating. For example, a small bedroom would likely have smaller, understated end tables, while a larger bedroom may have an overstuffed chair along with larger tables. No matter what the scale is, make sure that you have some items that are smaller and larger than others.

4. Where will you place things?

Once you’ve picked out your furniture and main accessories, you’ll need to think about where you’ll place things. Strangely enough, the best way to get visual balance is to group items in odd numbers. Don’t be afraid to try things out in a number of different ways and stick with the one that works best for you.

5. Give yourself options when it comes to lighting

The ideal lighting situation is one in which you can control how much light is in a room at any given time. This could mean a wide range of lamps and other lighting elements, or it could mean sheer curtains with darker curtains you can pull over them. The key is to be able to instantly change the mood in a room by simply changing up the lighting.
