Three Steps to Get You Started on the Path Toward Interior Design Inspiration

Finding a way to make your home your own can be challenging for those who aren’t trained in the art of interior design. 1. Take the time to consider the possibilities

It’s common for homeowners to go looking at design blogs and websites with their home in mind. They might find a couch they love but immediately discount it because it wouldn’t fit in their home, or they may instantly decide against a rug because it doesn’t go with the other items they’ve picked out so far. This is a mistake. We recommend going into the brainstorming process with a completely open mind. Yes, that couch may be too big, but you’ll learn what type of fabric and style you’re looking for. That rug might not match what you’ve picked out so far, but it could inspire you to go down a completely different path.

2. Create a structure

3. Get your goals in order

Once you know the order of renovations and your budget, you can get your goals in order. Order fabrics samples, visit your local furniture store, and start making real decisions. Contact local companies who will handle any demolition, painting, wiring, etc. Gather quotes from everyone and make adjustments to your budget where necessary. As you can see, this process goes to both ends of the extreme: It starts out with you being totally open minded to any possibility and ends with you being very pragmatic about what you can do within your budget and where you can make cuts.
