Velvet Roman Shades

The richness of velvet in a clean, structured window treatment. HPD velvet Roman shades are available in Signature Velvet and Heritage Plush Velvet — handcrafted to your exact dimensions in relaxed and flat fold styles with blackout and privacy lining options.

Velvet Roman shades occupy a distinctive position — they bring the warmth, depth, and visual richness of velvet to windows where curtain panels would take up too much space or where a clean, fitted look is the design goal. When raised, the shade stacks neatly at the headrail; when lowered, the flat folds of a velvet shade display the fabric's directional pile beautifully, with the color appearing slightly richer and deeper as the shade lies flat against the window.

Two velvet collections are available. Signature Velvet has a smooth, microsuede-like finish — sleek and contemporary, suited to modern and transitional rooms. Heritage Plush Velvet has a deeper, denser traditional pile — cozy and enveloping, suited to classic and maximalist spaces. Both are available with privacy lining, lined and interlined, and blackout lining options.

Velvet Roman shades are particularly effective in bedrooms and home theaters where the dense pile contributes meaningful acoustic softening alongside the blackout lining's light control. They also suit formal dining rooms and living rooms where a premium fabric in a tailored format makes the strongest design statement.

What velvet collections are available for Roman shades?

Two velvet collections are available. Signature Velvet has a smooth, microsuede-like finish — sleek and contemporary, suited to modern and transitional spaces. Heritage Plush Velvet has a deeper, denser traditional pile — warmer and more enveloping, suited to classic and maximalist rooms. Both are available in multiple colorways with full lining choice.

What style options are available?

All HPD Roman shades are available in both Relaxed and Flat Roman styles. The Relaxed style features soft, casual curves at the bottom when raised — suited to informal fabrics and rooms. The Flat style features crisp, structured horizontal folds — suited to formal rooms and fabrics like velvet and faux silk where drape and sheen are the focus.

How do I measure for a Roman shade?

Roman shades can be ordered for inside or outside mount. Inside mount requires a minimum 2¾" window depth — measure the opening at three points (top, middle, bottom for width; left, centre, right for height) and use the narrowest width and tallest height. HPD makes all necessary deductions in-house. Outside mount: add a minimum of 1½" on each side for width and at least 2–3" above the opening for height. Always measure to the nearest ⅛" using a steel tape measure.

How does the lift mechanism work and is it safe for homes with children?

HPD Roman shades operate with a plastic beaded continuous loop that raises and lowers the shade smoothly through a clutch mechanism. The shade locks at any position. Free-hanging loops pose a strangulation hazard to young children — always secure the loop to the wall using the tension device provided, keep loops out of children's reach, and position furniture away from window coverings. Check that the tension device remains securely fixed to the wall and reinstall if it comes loose.

What rooms and styles suit velvet Roman shades?

Velvet Roman shades suit bedrooms, home theaters, dining rooms, and living rooms where warmth, depth, and a premium fabric character are the design goals. The flat fold of a Roman shade allows velvet's pile direction to be appreciated in a way that gathered curtain panels don't — the fabric lies smooth and displays its full color depth. Suits maximalist, traditional, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, and transitional interiors.
