Choose window coverings that block heat loss

The easiest way may be to simply install new window treatments that can help keep the heat inside where it belongs. Cellular shades, also known as honeycomb shades, are a popular choice. They actually have small cells in them that trap heat and prevent it from getting out of the home, while they block cold air from getting in. When the warmer months get here, they also prevent you from losing air conditioning out your windows and from excessive heat from getting in. To get the most from your window shades, mount them as close to the window as you can. This will seal the airspace and make them more efficient. In rooms with south-facing windows, open them up on sunny days, and when night comes close them again. This allows the sun to come in and warm your home. If you don’t want cellular shades, consider heavier drapes, such as velvet curtains, or use several layers of curtains. The more fabric or batting you have, and the closer they’re installed to your window, the warmer your home will be.

Use window kits

You can easily find window kits that include plastic that can be used to seal up your windows. This isn’t the best looking option, but when you seal your windows with them and then add curtains over top, you’ll get incredible insulation and windows you love.
