At Half Price Drapes, we’re always sure to stay up to date on the latest trends but we are also realistic. While some of these design trends sound great on paper, we want to be sure that our customers are thinking not just about how it’ll look today but how they’ll function for years to come. Here are a few of the design trends we hope you’ll think about before you implement them.
Open kitchen shelves can be more trouble than they’re worth
This is a big one in the design world: Open kitchen shelves. While it will likely look great the first day you complete the project, be sure you’re ready to keep up on all the maintenance. Are your dishes always neatly stacked and free of dust? Do all your dishes match – or least look good together? When most all of your dishes are in the dishwasher, how will your open cabinets look?
Raw wood can be difficult to clean
We’ve seen wood used in a lot of places. This trend is popular in part because people like the rustic look and because using reclaimed wood is a smart move from an environmental point of view. However, remember that these woods can cause splinters and can have bumps and crevices that make them virtually impossible to dust.
Throw pillows may be more tasteful in lower numbers
Many people grab up tons of throw pillows and put them on their couch or their bed. While they can look great and cozy, remember that if you have too many on the couch, they’ll look rumpled every time someone has to sit on them or throw them out of the way. Likewise, pillows on a bed just end up on the floor.
Walls made out of windows
Sunlight is a great thing and we understand why people want to make the most of their views. However, having a wall that’s made entirely out of windows can make privacy a thing of the past. Before you decide to do a wall made entirely out of glass, consider your privacy needs. Of course, Half Price Drapes offers custom draperies so we can get you the exact size and fabric you want but if you’re going to have your windows covered, do they really need to take up the entire wall?Remember that the purpose of these tips is to ensure that you’ve considered all sides of the issue. For some people, these aren’t important factors at all.
